Donuts

Donuts make the world go round. Who doesn’t love donuts? Glazed, colourful, with a lot of sprinkles, stuffed with fruits or chocolate chips. You can eat them fried or baked. Today we are presenting you an easy -no knead- recipe that It’s also baked. So, girls, we don’t need to worry about calories. Easy, healthy and delicious.

I love this recipe because it doesn’t requiere a mixer. You just mix the ingredients by hand! You can either bake or fry them. We suggest baking them. They taste like sweet bread. This is how baked donuts taste like. More like a sweet bread than a baker’s fried donut. Honey makes them even tastier!

In a big bowl add flour, salt and yeast. Keep salt and yeast away form each other cause the say that salt inactivates yeast. In another bowl mix together the milk with the eggs, honey, melted butter and vanilla. Μake a puddle in the centre of the flour mix and pour in the wet ingredients.  Mix them well using a spatula until you have a wet, loose dough. Cover the dough with cling film and a towel. Let it rise for 2-3 hours until it’s doubled in size and bubbles up on top. Then put the dough in the fridge and let it firm up overnight (12 hours). Don’t skip this part. It’s important for the dough to firm up so it can be rolled out.  You can keep the dough in the fridge for 3 days.
Οn a floured surface or on a non-stick floured paper, roll out the dough to 0,5 cm thick. Using a cup and a bottle cup for the hole in the centre form your donuts. Place them in a lined baking tray leaving some space between them. Cover them with a towel and let them rise for anohter 20-30 minutes. Then brush them with some melted butter and bake them in a preheated 190 °C oven for 20-30 minutes. Have an eye on them! While still warm, dip them in the icing, so a lovely sugar skin will form. You can dip them in a simple icing (milk and powdered sugar), cocoa icing and chocolate ganache, food coloring and sprinkles.
