Little Secrets of Happiness
Hello all, Joanne here from The Edinburgh Life sharing with you some little secrets of happiness to cheer you up on this gloomy week!
While I was shopping with a friend yesterday, I realised that buying another floral top wouldn’t make me happy forever, but the need to buy it and make it mine was so severe, I eventually gave in.
Not long after this, I returned back home, left the top on my chair and started doing my daily stretching routine, only to realise that doing these yoga positions made me more happy than a floral top lying on my sofa. Big deal you might be thinking, everyone knows that being active releases endorphins that make you happy. But how many of us do we follow the things that we seem to know they make us happy? How many of us make excuses not to go out and workout and we’d rather have a cup of hot chocolate instead? I am guilty as everyone else, and so from today I promised myself to make a change and try to be good with myself and do some minor changes on my everyday life to bring me more moments of happiness.
So here are the mini daily changes I will be doing::
1. Stretch every morning and every night.
You don’t have to turn into a cat or know every yoga position by heart, but stretching every morning after you wake up and every night before bed makes such a huge difference, as it helps relax the muscles and also gives you a better posture.
2. Drink at least 1.5 l of water per day.
With the busy lifestyle that we all follow, drinking the suggested amount of 8 glasses of water per day some times seems impossible. But instead of tearing myself up for not drinking enough water I try to drink at least 1.5 l per day by having 2 glasses in the morning and 2 glasses at night. I don’t want to be cruel with me or make me feel guilt if I don’t reach that amount per day, so by doing these 2 glasses change every morning and night, helps me get closer to my target.
3. Apply a facial moisturiser every night.
But don’t apply it in a rush, take your time and pretend you are in your very own spa. Give yourself sometime to relax and make some positive thoughts. Trust me, you will see a big change in your face after a few months!
4. Spend time with your friends.
Consumed by our daily routine we often forget to make time for our friends, but it is so important to value these relationships and be in frequent touch with the people that make us happy. So text them tonight and arrange for a coffee maybe this weekend?
5. Buy some flowers.
Treat yourself as your best friend (shouldn’t it be anyway?) and buy some fresh flowers. Display them on your desk or coffee table and feel the magic of flowers instantly!
What are your little secrets of happiness? I’d love to know!
