The must-have bag
At the ripe age of 21, my mum decided it was about time I exchange my denim rucksack for something more suited. As much fun as it was to wander around the University dressed like Adam from the Sorosity Boys (how times have changed since then), mum suggested I drop my old friend for a new shiny bag that had a dog logo! She took me to the local Radley store, lectured me about the benefits of timeless, leather cross-body bags, and soon the famous Radley pocket bag became my bestest friend.
To that point, Radley was an unknown brand to me.
‘Perhaps something a law student would choose and not an engineer’-I kept thinking after mum and I left the store. But I was so wrong!
Radley was much loved and worn by everyone, it’s just that I was living behind the stones, and so in between field trips and lectures Radley gained my respect for creating the most elegant, sturdy and smart casual bags to support me everyday while multi-tasking.
Since then, I got many more Radley bags in my collection and mum keeps making smart jokes everytime I tell her about my latest purchase:: ‘if you know, you know’ she repeats, reminding me how clueless I was almost a decade ago. Sorry mum and thank you.
Now, I am a proud owner of a large tote bag (that holds my laptop plus books for the University), two suitcases (same print in a smaller and bigger size), and the MOST worn backpack ever that can hold everything and still look like new after years of use!
The latest addition to the family is this Farthing Downs large tote baby that can fit all my belongings (notepad, camera, wallet, keys, Cruzy’s poo bags) and looks fabulous with dresses and jeans. I love the practicality of the shoulder strap as I can wear it as a messenger bag when I am walking Cruz but also remove it and wear it as mini stylish tote for a dinner out.
Most importantly, due to its minimalist silhouette I no longer have to move things from one bag to another as I can wear it anytime of the day with any outfit, meaning it saves me time and the hassle of ‘where is my wallet’…
…and Cruzy approves!
What’s your favourite bag brand?
