There is no feeling quite as frustrating as missing the sunshine, in the middle of winter, in Scotland! The thought and only of being able to escape for some sunshine made my heart sing, so as soon as the opportunity arose (aka tickets to fly from Aberdeen to Marrakesh), I pulled the bullet and did it. Aberdeen to Marrakesh
During my five years residency in Aberdeen there have been many times that I wished I lived in a big(ger) city like Edinburgh, not for the masses of people that will stumble upon me during rush hour, but for the convenience of having an airport nearby that would allow me to travel anywhere in the world. And then there are moments where I sit back, have a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie at the Northern Lights executive lounge at Aberdeen airport, exactly 35′ after living my flat in Aberdeen city brew and I realise how lucky I am! Everything I need, I actually have it here, right in front of me….
Meticulously observing the airplanes taking off and landing, makes, the anxious flyer inside me, relax and worry less about things as (in a weird sense) I feel that I have everything under control. Arriving at the airport hours prior to my flight and making sure that I get a good spot to observe the runway is of utmost importance. Knowing that there will always be a window seat at the Northern Lights executive lounge at Aberdeen airport for me to sit and observe gives me a great peace of mind, and it is something that I am actually looking forward to these days before every flight.
Flying from Aberdeen to Marrakesh came easy; we flew to London Gatwick and then took an early morning flight from Gatwick to Marrakesh airport. This was my second time flying to Morocco and in all seriousness I was bursting from excitement to get my feet on Moroccan ground!
Flying over Marrakesh is a wonderful experience – the colours, palm trees and energy of the city is so vivid – but stepping out of the plane and experiencing the heat of the sun, is another thing.
Relieved to be back in warmer climates and ready to embrace every minute of it, I slipped into my bikini, ordered an orange juice, and got the best spot by the hotel’s swimming pool.
And this is exactly where I intent to be for the next days.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO MARRAKESH?
