This past weekend we travelled down to Edinburgh and stayed at the Braid Apartments by Mansley in New Town. The excitement of discovering a new place to stay is one of my favourite things when travelling. The truth is, I love traveling – and I am sure everyone reading this blog, knows this by now – but when you travel on a frequent basis, booking your accommodation can be dreadful with all the ‘last minute deals‘ and ‘one room left‘ pop-up messages on your screen. However, over the past years, I quickly learned what works best for me when looking for places to stay on a weekend getaway and I must say that I have become quite good at spotting the benefits of a place and what’s best left behind.
Braid Apartments by Mansley, isn’t a stranger to people walking past Thistle Street. The quiet location of the Braid Apartments is in big contrast to the busy George Street just a few meters away. By comparison, enjoying the city centre of Edinburgh whilst staying in the Apartments is duck soup and I would choose them over any other apartments in the Old Town.
Arriving guests report to the reception before being shown in their apartment. Ours was on the first floor, in the corner of the complex, with the BEST street view to Hanover Street. The atmosphere is fresh, simple and Scandi; seaside art hangs on the walls, the kitchen cupboards are white and the dining table is made out of glass. All of the windows look out on Thistle Street, there are Edinburgh related magazines on the living room informing the guests about the best places to visit in the city and Scottish soap in the bathroom.
We quickly left our bags in the bedroom before heading out in an effort to take full advantage of the day. There are good walks in the area, whether you are into architecture or shopping and food, the New Town is a great place to be! We went shopping on George Street before heading down to Stockbidge for dinner followed by a stroll along the Water of Leith heading to Dean Village, which I will talk more about it tomorrow.
Back to the apartment, we shared a pot of Earl Grey tea – there is a vast selection of Brodies tea bags to choose from -and watched some TV before heading out in the city again. The kitchen is well equipped with all the necessary appliances, cutlery and crockery to cook a feast for an entire family if needed, which comes quite handy when you cannot afford eating in restaurants every single day.
After a night out, we were utterly pleased to have to walk only a few yards to get back to our apartment and not go through the strain of walking or searching for a taxi. The Braid Apartments by Mansley is a gem of a place located in the best location in Edinburgh, unapologetically efficient to travellers and guests of the city.If you are looking for a place that will provide you more than what you can pay, then this is the place to book next time you are visiting Edinburgh.
