When: May 2015
Where: North Berwick
Location: Macdonald Marine Hotel and Spa

If you follow me on Instagram then you know we have just been back from an indulgent long weekend at a four-star country retreat Macdonald Marine Hotel and Spa in North Berwick-renowned for its beautiful coastal setting and 19th century Victorian architecture. After our trip to Copenhagen we were in need of a relaxing weekend break without going through the airport transportation and waiting time. We have never treated ourselves to stay so close to home, but with costs and time saved on airline tickets, I have come to realise it is really worth exploring heavenly made places like this on our doorsteps.

Only a three hours drive away from Aberdeen and 30′ minutes drive from Edinburgh, North Berwick is ideal for weekend getaways without spending loads of money on petrol. On top of this, the hotel has a bespoke spa complex making it ideal for a weekend away of work related stress-just what I wanted to get my head away the office life chaos.

Having spa treatments booked just after our arrival meant a quick suitcase-drop before wrapping ourselves in fluffy white robes and pattering off to the shiny spa. We surrounded to oily Elemis facial and back massages that did wonders to our stubborn, knotted back muscles. An hour later and we were fully immersed into spa life and steam saunas before retiring back to our luxurious room.

Dinner was a three course triumph! As per usual we had problem choosing what to have so looked to out waiter for some suggestions- we ended up having:

Starter: West Coast mussels with white wine sauce

Main: Mushroom ravioli

Dessert: Vanilla cheesecake

The following morning we gorged on the mother of all breakfasts. Despite wanting to have a romantic breakfast in bed the multi-coloured berries, freshly squeezed orange juice and splendid coffee were all too much to get into the duvet with us. So once again we got ourselves dressed and walked into the dinning area. After a food coma we strolled around North Berwick exploring the beauty of the town (more on this will follow in a next post), before ending up in the gym.

At the end of our stay we felt it wasn’t enough time and we weren’t ready to leave, but I imagine with luxury treatments and stay like with, you never are!

Thanks Macdonald Marine Hotel and Spa for having us 🙂

Wow, this seriously is looking like a fabulous weekend getaway!
One of my friends got engaged in this place and I remember being envious of her Facebook pictures.

Did you visit the spa too?
