Date Night at The Macdonald’s Hotel

Date Night at The Macdonald’s Hotel

Once a week we pick a night that is just for the two of us; sometimes Steven cooks spaghetti with white wine sauce and salmon flakes, others we pick a place somewhere close and treat ourselves to an indulgent dinner. During our stay at North Berwick we were lucky enough to be invited at the Macdonald’s Marine Hotel & Spa for dinner!

Neither of us have had dinner before here so it was a love at first sight for both of us!

all the wine and bread of the world
Spring lamb with leek, mushroom and pearl barley risotto
Chocolate profiterole with ice-cream balls
West coast mussels in white wine sauce
Mushroom ravioli
Vanilla cheesecake with strawberry compote
First things first: Look at this fantastic view! I was astonished when I realised that our table was next to the window; there is nothing more I would have asked for a date night! As far as the eye can see there is green and blue and in combination with the sun setting warmth filters it does look like a painting!
The food: I have been craving seafood (what a surprise) for a long time so when I spotted the mussels on the menu I knew this would have to be my starter. Fresh, aromatic and dipped in a heavenly made white wine sauce, I just couldn’t get enough of it. Steven went for all the wine and bread of the world along with a chowder (that wasn’t as photogenic as my starter hence the lack of pictures). For mains we both got what we love the most; succulent, soft meat for him and past for me. Delish! What was the absolute delight of our night though was the dessert. Vanilla cheesecake and naughty chocolate profiteroles, both left us speechless. The cheesecake was so refreshing with a subtle taste of strawberry, not too sweet or too heavy, and the profiteroles were…well if they pictures do not speak for themselves then I don’t know if words are enough to describe! The hot chocolate sauce turned into solid when poured on top of the profiteroles and made the whole dessert even more tasty than it was…
Rather full we walked hand in hand to the beautiful garden and eagerly waited for the sun to set.
What a beautiful date night!
