Dinner at Hewat’s Edinburgh

Visit upon visit in Edinburgh, it is impossible to not worship the Hewat’s, a place that holds good memories in my heart, as here it is where I first met Steven’s mother a few years back.
I remember I had travelled down to Edinburgh for a conference and Steven suggested it was about time I meet Susan. We set the time headed over at Hewat’s and had our very first dinner together.

On Friday night, Steven and I travelled down to Edinburgh for the winter sessions at the Balmoral hotel, but before this we stepped into Hewat’s for a homely dinner for two. And I tell you, once again it didn’t disappoint us…

…we order the ‘new fish sharing platter’ for a starter, the wild mushroom ricotta tortellini on risotto with asparagus and truffle sauce for me and the chicken breast with thai coconut curry sauce and pilaff rice for Steven, along with a few glasses of wine. Everything was outstanding and so filling I was happy I was wearing a mini skirt that is a bit lose around the waistline. The tortellini on risotto was one of the best I’ve ever had in my life (Italy and U.K.), and Steven enjoyed his chicken fillet that had a creamy, rich flavour.

The owner herself was so lovely to chat to, she kept asking Steven how are his parents, as they are loyal customers. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Christmas, with tartan blankets on the back of each chair, candles on the tables and twinkling lights along the windows – sweet and charming.

I know we will be returning back soon to taste more of the menu, but until then I will be dreaming of this tortellini risotto that I had….
