Birthday with Chris
What is a birthday celebration without a bit of drama? Earlier this afternoon Chris and I, had arranged to meet each other at a local pub in Ashton Lane to celebrate my 27th birthday. Everything seemed normal – I got my make up on, had my hair done, wore a casual outfit and got out of the door. Suddenly the skies opened and heavy rain was pouring all over the city. My poor umbrella broke just a few minutes after leaving the house, and during the 15′ walk to the pub, the rain paused and started three times in total. Needless to say that my make up and hair got ruined and that I got soaked to the bone!

Chris and I met at the entrance of Ashton lane – we walked into the pub, ordered our drinks and it seemed like things had finally fallen into the right place….until the fire alarm went of! Chris and I looked each other and started laughing, I mean what else could have possibly go wrong?

We quickly followed the waiter’s instructions and evacuated the pub. With no place to go, we were left holding our drinks (that by that time turned totally cold) in a rainy pub garden, laughing and thinking how impossible it was for all these things to happen. Within a few minutes, the firemen arrived and attempted to drive their huge van into the tiny street that Ashton lane is, making the whole situation even more laughable! After a few trials, they finally managed to fit the van, extinguish the fire in the kitchen and so we were allowed to sit back at our table again.

Finally everything was as it was supposed to be, I blew the candles of the chocolate birthday cake that I bought, Chris wished me the best, we drunk our beverages and as I went to pay the bill, I met a British gent who could speak Greek fluently. That’s not something that happens everyday in your life, so you can imagine my surprise once he spoke to me – but this wasn’t an ordinary day, it was my birthday, and it was full of surprises! We spent the rest of the evening having a long discussion about past celebrations, summer vacations and future travel plans. Thanks to everyone today I had the most unforgettable birthday celebration. Life is truly a sequence of unexpected events, isn’t it just!

P.S: Thanks Chris for the candles and pictures. You rock!
