Unless you work around the area, Thistle Street probably isn’t the place where you will meet most Aberdonians lunching. I didn’t know about the lovely shops of Thistle Street until I cycled one evening around West End and went past all the pretty facades. There was one particular that caught my eye….Almondine! Almondine’s story began in 2011 after the owners did a few back and forth trips to Paris, only to realise that there is not a place to buy macarons in Aberdeen. They perfected their secret recipe and so the Almondine idea was born!
Almondine offers a variety of lunch options from freshly baked croissants to savoury crepes but what is really that made it popular is the afternoon tea experience. I am yet to live this but I am sure we’ll book ourselves a table sooner than later. Jules and I popped in for lunch break earlier today after timing our busy schedules. Pushing out the boat, we decided to pretend we where somewhere in Paris and order crepes as the French would…
We both went for the chicken and mushroom option along with a freshly squeezed orange juice for me and jasmine tea for Jules. To my fascination, Almondine does freshly squeezed orange juices. I make such a big deal when I go in a place and order freshly squeezed juice that comes out of the carton, so I was so pleased when my juice arrived on the table-fresh and aromatic as it should be when squeezed out of oranges minutes before, yum!
Jules got the jasmine and rose tea, a speciality blooming tea that opens up and becomes a flower after being saturated in hot water. How fascinating is this!
Our food was truly scrumptious which perfectly set us up for the busy day ahead. We also treated ourselves to two Easter themed macarons, justifying them as hump day treats (any excuse to eat dessert). We giggled and talked and planned adventures until our time came to head back in our offices.
How cute is this bunnie macaron? I love the details 🙂
If you are looking for a cute place to have lunch in Aberdeen, then Almondine Aberdeen is the place. Whilst I cannot give a verdict on the rest of the food or drinks, I can safely say that we loved our girly date and I am definitely looking forward to the next one.
Almondine you’ve been the best and so you are added in the list of my Aberdeen cafe reviews category. Until the next time!
