Autumn in Komotini is very pretty! The leaves turn orange, the air gets misty and the mountain views are pretty spectacular and inviting. I’m hoping to explore a bit more of the hiking trails in the upcoming months but for now, I opted for a coffee at Nymfaia, an area just 4km outside Komotini.
Once parked, I was greeted by this friendly fella joyfully pouncing around only to lie down and give me the puppy eyes with the sole purpose of getting stroked.
A clever boy that one is, I’m telling you!
I wish I could take him back home with me but then again I say this for every stray dog that follows me around.
Thankfully, the owners of the local cafeteria take good care of him and it makes me feel better knowing that no treats will be missed from his diet!
Back to our morning adventure…
Château Nouveau is the only cafe in the area. It sits opposite the church on top of the hill and the spectacular mountain views compensate for the 20′ car ride from the city centre.
We found a table at the edge of the big balcony, ordered some Greek coffee, which came with some raisin cinnamon biscuits, and we sat there taking in the mountain views.
This year, I was thrilled by the prospect of Autumn arriving on our doorstep.
We experienced one of the hottest summers in Greece- the scorching August sun was unbearable at times, and what with the fires burning half of the country, I couldn’t wait for the time to come when we’d wear jumpers and drink hot beverages.
We may not be there yet, especially on the jumper wearing part, but it feels so good to have the temperatures dropping and enjoy the occasional misty morning.
Especially if accompanied with views as such!
Our coffee date lasted for much longer than we originally expected but we couldn’t find the strength to leave this place, or the dog lying next to me. Well worth the time off unpacking…
Until next time!
