As part of my Postcards from Corfu post last year, I posted a few pictures from the beautiful palace of Sissi, which is one of the top destinations to visit when in Corfu- so there was no chance we wouldn’t visit once again.
Achilleion palace is very close in distance to Marbella Corfu hotel, however, we had to rent a car as there are no bus routes and we wanted to explore the island a bit more.
The palace was built in the 19th century- not exactly Ancient Greek! But where it lacks history it makes up in beauty. The interior is beautifully decorated, with artists brought in from around Europe to do specific parts. The best part for me, however, was the garden- huge and full of exotic plants and statues, and views of the island since the palace sits on top of a mountain. I couldn’t help imagining what it would be like to live here and enjoy this every day. One day, I’m sure!
