On our last night to Corfu we visited the newest restaurant of the hotel, the Splash American Diner, Located right next to the pool, this is the best place to refuel after a dive or have a refreshing ice cream to relieve the heat.
Sadly we didn’t get the chance to visit the pool during daytime but this view paid us back.
The Diner has a retro 50’s style decoration with black and white tiles and big red sofas and chairs. Pin up girls posters and mini van miniatures complete the atmosphere, and it sort of feels likes we traveled through a time machine to the past.
In the entrance we were greeted by the waitress and were sited in a table next to the window that I loved as I could have a look at the sky on the pool water reflection.
We placed our order and soon after that a bowl full of nachos with cheese on top was brought to our table while we were impatiently waiting for our starters.
Steven wanted to try a Greek beer so I recommend Mythos and he loved it!
For starters we had fried shrimps with coconut & sweet mustard sauce, hot chicken wings with sweet & sour mango sauce and a chicken salad that was -no kidding- the best salad I’ve ever had!
The shrimps were soft and the batter was very tasty; sweet and a tiny bit spicy- right up my street!
While we were enjoying our starters, people started making their way to the restaurant and within minutes it was full.
For main course I ordered the Lasagna “Milfei” with carrots & cheese cream while Steven had the chicken fajitas with soy sauce & vegetables- a very Greek take on a Mexican classic.
When the dishes arrived I was gutted to see that my lasagna had feta cheese as one of the ingredients, it is the one and only cheese that I absolutely loathe since I can remember myself. At the beginning I thought I shouldn’t tell anyone and I will satisfy my hunger with bread and olive oil. Not long after we were served though, the waiter asked us if we were happy with our dishes and I spilled the beans, feeling terribly sorry that I had to return this nice dish back to the chef. Without further ado, the waiter got the dish out of the table and brought me the menu to re-order. He made me feel better for returning the dish (I always feel bad when this happens), informed the chef and they both promised to be very quick with anything I would like to order next so that I will not wait long.
I asked them to bring whatever they feel would be quicker and they suggested the salmon that was a great success!
A fresh salmon fillet, covered with the most delicious, creamy sauce and accompanied with crispy vegetables was in front my eyes with 10′ and I was so happy, I coudn’t hide my face.
It took me seconds to get it down and wash it off with some beer before the desserts menu was given to me.
Even though I was quite hungry minutes ago, the salmon filled me so much I decided not to order a dessert but our lovely waiter insisted to try the stuffed cookie with vanilla ice cream & hot chocolate sauce. No one can resist to chocolate, so who am I to say no?
Steven got the white chocolate mousse with ginger & cardamon. Our order was served along with some traditional Greek coffee that was prepared by our waiter behind the bar!
Momentarily we got lost in the flavours, getting nibbles from each others dish.
The chocolate mousse was light and velvety, better than ice cream if I may say.
As for my stuffed cookie well I think the picture speaks for itself (and I am salivating as I am writing this because too bad I will not taste it for a long time).
Our night ended with the waiter asking me if I can understand Greek as I hadn’t said a Greek word for the entire night and my accent confused him despite the fact that I look like a local. As soon as the mystery was solved he thanked us for visiting the restaurant and when he asked us if we were pleased with the tastes we agreed that this night was the best we had so far in our stay in Marbella Corfu.
On this note, I would like to thank Fran, Amaryllis and all the Marbella crew for their unspeakable hospitality and the care they took of us while we were there. I cannot recommend enough this place for your holidays!
