Red carpet glitz comes to Aberdeen!

Sponsored post in association with American Express®

I absolutely love living in Aberdeen, but there are some things that I do miss about the days when I lived in London. There was so much happening almost in every corner of the city, a midweek night out felt like Saturday night! So, when something special is about to happen in Aberdeen, I find it difficult not to do a happy dance in my living room or Tweet about it and share the news with you all.

Get your little black dress out of the closet and get ready to enjoy the Opening Night gala of the 61st BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday, 4th October 2017. Put on by the BFI and American Express, headline sponsor of the Festival, you’ll get to enjoy a stream of the live red carpet event followed by the European premiere of Andy Serkis’ directorial debut, Breathe at the Union Square Cineworld.

The premiere of BREATHE in Aberdeen

Before sharing the news with you I watched the film trailer and I can already tell you that there won’t be a dry eye in the cinema. Breathe is all about love, support and strength through difficult times. No wonder then that the film poster has ‘With her love he lived’ written on it.

To give you a taste, here’s a short film synopsis:

Andy Serkis’s (Jungle Book, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) makes his feature directorial debut, with BREATHE. Based on a script by twice Academy Award-nominated writer William Nicholson (Everest, Shadowlands and Gladiator), Breathe is an inspirational true story of love without limits.

Adventurous and charismatic, Robin (Andrew Garfield- Hacksaw Ridge, Silence) has his whole life ahead of him when he is paralysed by polio, whilst in Africa. Against all advice, Robin’s wife Diana (Claire Foy- Golden Globe Winner, The Crown, Wolf Hall) brings him home from hospital; where her devotion and witty determination transcends his disability. Together they refuse to be imprisoned by his suffering; dazzling others with their humour, courage and lust for life. BREATHE is a heart-warming and highly emotional celebration of bravery and human possibility, a love story about living every breath as though it’s your last.

Based on the true story of producer Jonathan Cavendish’s own parents, Breathe shows how Robin’s handling of and reaction to his illness, had a huge impact on mobility and access for the disabled.

The film’s supporting cast members include Hugh Bonneville (Paddington and Downton Abbey) and Tom Hollander (Jungle Book and The Night Manager) as Robin’s devoted, longtime friends. Stephen Mangan (Rush) and acting legend Dame Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones, the original The Avengers) complete the cast with a soundtrack by the acclaimed composer Nitin Sawhney.

The film will be released across the UK and Ireland on 27th October.

I am all about love stories especially if they are based on true stories. So, I hope to see you there on Wednesday and have some fun together. Let me know if you’ll be joining me at the screening in Aberdeen Union Square Cineworld?
