We couldn’t leave Leros island and not visit Pandeli castle, about half an hour walk from the port of Pandeli. This castle is what you imagine a Greek castle to be like; tall sandstone walls on top of a golden hill, showered with oregano bushes and warm sunlight colours.
^^Greek sunsets are quite a thing!^^
Similar to all hiking trails in the Greek island this too was a gentle hike around the village; a rail full of lavender, oregano and mountain tea aroma. On our way, we played with stray cats, smelled blooming flowers and greeted old grannies who responded with a ‘yasas’ (that is hello in Greek) when we were crossing their neighborhood alleys.
We also stopped at almost every house with bougainvilleas and white walls to take a picture. I have said it before but my eyes love being here; there is a saying that in Greece all 5 senses get satisfied hence everyone is happy, and what is not to satisfy your eyes here?
^^ stunning views to the island ^^
On top of the hill we enjoyed the views to the other side of the island. White, little boxes, scattered like a broken puzzle composed the picture of Leros. We stayed there for a while, listening to the sound of church bells, and absorbing the view and last rays of sunlight before heading back in the village for dinner and drinks by the beach.
What a treat!
