The Edinburgh Christmas Market

It’s not much of a secret that Edinburgh knows hot to do Christmas well. The city wears its festive, red colours all over the streets, window shops and house doors with the cherry on top of the cake being the Christmas Market located in the heart of the city.

There is not a single person in Scotland that doesn’t visit Edinburgh this time of the year just for a wee stroll around the market! It expands from Saint Andrews Square to the Princes Street Gardens and up until the end of George Street, making in impossible not to get a taste of Christmas if you are in the city.

Unlike last weekend, this time we took some time off work and drove down for a long weekend staying in until Monday, providing us the time to meet with friends, explore and also do all our Christmas shopping. Meeting this lovely lady and having coffee and hot, tomato soup at Leo’s Beanery in one of our favourite coffee shop in new town was the highlight of course!

Edinburgh streets are very busy at this time of the year. You will spot tourists going around with (Google) maps in one hand and locals carrying all their shopping bags while trying to cross the packed streets. It gets annoying when you want to walk down the streets just for the sake of walking among the crowds, but its beautiful too. Observing people getting together to enjoy some mulled wine and chocolate churros in the market is one of my favourite things to do (aside from shopping), it just makes me happy seeing all these smiley faces. Quite literally everyone is in their best mood!

On Saturday evening Steven and I went for a stroll around the shops, just for a bit of browsing before making our final selection of gifts. We ended up having a delicious early dinner at Wahaca and then we went off to watch the show ‘Five Guys named Moe’ which I cannot recommend enough to anyone who wants to get into the festive mood. All the actors on scene were the most talented singers/ dancers/comedians I’ve ever seen live. They were on fire!
The Herald wrote that the cast is a firecracker and I can’t agree anymore. The show is colourful, exciting, funny and it is played by the most energetic and lively actors I have ever seen. The main character has a strong, deep voice that I dare to say is equal to Frank Sinatra’s. A vast selection of jazz songs is included in the act and the public is involved at some parts of the show. Dancing all together on the scene was so much fun!
‘Five Guys named Moe’ is in Edinburgh until the 7th of January so if you are around please go and treat yourselves to this show. I promise you will love it!

I wasn’t allowed to get pictures, however here is a series of the night’s picture starting from the arena on the left, the hot chocolate with cream I had mid-show, and the end of the act on the right when everyone cheerfully applauded the cast. Colourful like I said, right?

Have you ever been to the Edinburgh Christmas Market? Did you watch any shows?
