Happy Friday friends and welcome to another instalment of The Friday Edit blog Series! This week has flown by so quickly I sincerely cannot believe it’s Friday already. On Monday, I sat down to work and didn’t lift my head until my stomach started rumbling, only to realise it was 3pm. The next days went by equally quickly with admin work, photoshootings and meetings and so here I am today writing The Friday Edit once again! Without further ado, here’s what happened this week:
ONE// In preparation of an autumn picnic photoshooting I am organising with Jules and Kendall for the upcoming weekend, I had a few brands sending me products to feature them on the day. On Wednesday, Mr. Postman rang the bell and delivered five bags from NEXT filled with autumnal clothes and just yesterday he brought me a pair of fur lined boots from EMU Australia and I so look forward to wearing them all during the photoshooting and the rest of autumn.
TWO// It’s no secret that Instagram numbers have fallen drastically the past year for everyone and that Instagram growth is extremely slow these days. Blame it on the change of the algorithm or, in my case, on my camera breaking and having to take pictures with my macro lens – that are producing images completely different to what I used to post- but reality is, Instagram is dying. On Wednesday morning, and just before Mr. Postman knocked my door, I decided to watch TV and posted my breakfast tray on my Instagram account and it went viral like the good old days! I seriously could not believe it, I kept getting notifications and private messages and kept wondering if this is what people want to see more on Instagram these days. When the majority of collaborators, sadly, judge bloggers today based on their Instagram numbers, I hope you can see why I was so happy! I know it is very shallow to be happy for the number of your Instagram likes, but as Natbee’s is my full-time job, this pretty much equals a mini recognition in the work environment, right?
THREE// One thing that really hit me hard this week is the lack of appreciation for the services bloggers provide. I choose to feature only places and products that are close to my heart here at Natbee’s and I do not mind reviewing places and products without receiving any payment if I like them and are things that I would pay for myself. HOWEVER, I get truly disappointed when people take advantage of my time and ask for things for free on top of services that I have already provided to them for free and without asking them anything in return. To make a long story short, I was contacted by an independent, local cafe the other day asking if they could use my images of their place in their new website. They offered nothing in return, no payment, no credits would be given and to be honest they didn’t even thank me at first place for all the exposure I have provided to them so far. Not a single ‘thank you‘ as a form of appreciation for my time and services! I understand that the majority of people who are not familiar with the digital marketing word think that bloggers do literally nothing and, thus, are not worth any sort of payment. But, to ask for my images use and rights for commercial purpose, that let’s face it, will make your website look more professional without considering that it costs me to buy and maintain my expensive camera kit just shows lack of respect and unprofessionalism! There is a tremendous amount of time that goes into blogging and social media and there is a certain cost that we pay to cover our blog expenses from domains to camera kits and anything else that might come up, much as you pay for your rent, chef and other expenses. It is truly a shame when people treat bloggers like they are hobbyists, so please respect us and our services before approaching us with a cheeky offer! Moving on…
FOUR/ Autumn leaves, they are everywhere and they make Aberdeen so beautiful! I never really appreciated autumn until I moved in Scotland and I can safely say that it is the most beautiful season in this country. Everyday I cannot wait to take Cruz on a walk through the park and just look at the trees and the change of colours, so pretty!
And with all that said and done, let’s step into another weekend. I was supposed to travel to Dunkeld House Hotel this weekend but with the weather misbehaving I am staying in Aberdeen watching movies and drinking hot chocolate (not that it doesn’t make me happy!).
What are your plans for this weekend?
